The field of the post is computer science and engineering, especially distributed computation.

The person to be appointed to the post is expected to have a strong track record in at least one of the following areas:

  • specification and verification methods for distributed systems,
  • distributed algorithms and their analysis,
  • models of distributed systems and networks
as well as a strong interest in research, outstanding academic credentials, and a strong commitment to graduate and undergraduate education.

The deadline for applications is February 9, 2007. For more detailed information, see the official announcement (in English / in Finnish ).

Laboratory for Theoretical Computer Science (TCS)

The TCS lab is one of six laboratories of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DCSE) at Helsinki University of Technology (TKK), which the oldest and the largest university of technology in Finland. DCSE is the largest faculty and leading educator in its field in Finland.

The mission of the TCS lab is to carry out high-quality foundational research supporting the long-term development of computer science and its applications. A defining characteristic of the work at TCS is the integration of deep theoretical work to the development and application of advanced methods for challenging computational tasks. The TCS Lab also puts a strong emphasis on postgraduate education and has an established track record in this area. For example, in 2002-2006 a total of 14 doctoral degrees have been completed. The TCS Lab is working seriously to reach the status of a national Centre of Excellence in Research.

For further information on the university, the department, and the lab, see the TKK, DCSE, and TCS lab home pages.
