1. Rating Technical quality 5: Contents are completely correct. There are no errors. Originality 3: No significantly new ideas, but good analysis of current state Editorial quality 4: Mostly understandable, some improvements identified below There are some minor ambiguous parts in the introduction of the "security mode" in Section "WiMedia" Overall grade (overall, how do you rate this paper?) 4: Very good Confidence (how confident are you about this review?) 2: I have some general knowledge of this subject 2. Detailed comments 2a. Technical quality This paper reviews the techniques to provide secure communication channel at the MAC layer, by introducing two classic standards. The explanation is good enough, but two improvements are suggested. One is the attacks anaylysis on the security model. It answers a question "what the benefits in the real life?" The other is the analysis of the structure of 4-way handshake. In my opinion, 4-way handshake is actually 2 rounds security setup process for two purposes. The first round aims at proving the posession of the PMK and generating a session key, i.e. PTK. The second round is to verify the integrity of parameters and install it. In this way, the ideas behind could be simplied to the reader. 2b. Originality The paper does not propose really new ideas, but rather a good technique description and review. It could be reinforced by giving a brief of the relevant security process or issues, so that the position of the MAC layer key establishment is clear in the chain of security establishment. 2c. Editorial quality The language is ok, but a bit verbose in explaining the message sequences. Some descriptions could be omitted, since the diagram was provided. The abbreviation table is a good idea for the readability. According to your analysis and conclusion, some list of the principles of the techniques could be produced for a clear view. Good references: References seems OK. Nothing to say.
