T-79.510 Seminar on Cryptography and Security Protocols (3 cr) P V
Autumn
40 + 28 (3+2)
Teacher: Prof. (pro tem) Helger Lipmaa

Contents:
This is an advanced undergraduate or graduate level seminar on the subfield of data security. The goal of the students is to write and present a research paper in English. This course can be seen as a graduate level and more cryptography-oriented continuation of T-110.501.

Requirements: Writing and presenting a research paper.

Prerequisites: T-110.501, and either T-110.503 or T-79.159 or equivalent skills.

Unofficial description

The course will follow loosely the guidelines of T-110.501 (``Seminar on Network Security'', a.k.a. Netsec), except that it is: (1) more graduate (although advanced undergraduate students are welcome, given their interest in cryptographic research), (2) more cryptography-oriented (although there will be topics on general security issues), and (3) non-mandatory (yet?) for anybody. The seminar has some of the leading specialists from Finland and neighbouring countries as tutors.

We will assume that most of the students have participated in Netsec during last few years, or have otherwise some experience in writing research papers, and sufficient knowledge in cryptography. We strongly suggest to study the webpage of Netsec for background information and general guidance on writing and presenting the papers.

The results of this seminar will be presented by the students in December (exact date TBA). At least this year, the results will not be published by the university - instead, all students are strongly urged to submit the resulting paper to some conference. Guidance on how to do that will be given during the last lecture of the seminar. In many cases it will hopefully be possible to base your MSc or a part of your Lic./PhD thesis on the results of this seminar.

The number of students in this course will be limited by 20.
